Nope. In fact, it’s the lack of doing things that’s odd. I sleep very deeply.
I’ve slept through:
• 3 fire alarms going off.
• 2 ambulances going down my street (why on earth they’d turn the sirens on in the middle of the night in a residential area beats me.)
• 3 tornados that were a few miles away.
• My sister climbing into my bed dozens of times.
• A dozen screaming little girls outside my bedroom door.
• A few doorbells.
• My sister sitting on top of me.
• Getting my clothes taken off (thanks, Astrid).
• My friend blaring music in my ear.
You get the gist. I also can sleep up to 15 hours at a time if I’m really exhausted.
Sleepwalking isn’t uncommon, but here’s my experience with it.
I think this happened when I was around 9 or 10. It was either shortly before or after my birthday. In that time frame, my dad showed me the first Harry Potter movie on his computer and I wanted to see more, but he and I never got around to it.
On one particular night, I got out of my bed and kept muttering something about Hogwarts.
Then I went to the fridge and grabbed this big-ass block of American cheese. As I gnawed on the cheese, I went into my dad’s room and turned on the computer to try to find the rest of the movies on YouTube or something.
Obviously my dad noticed so he took the cheese out of my hand and guided me back to my room. To this day he doesn’t let me hear the end of it.
I rant about violas.
Yes, you read that correctly.
My mom sometimes works late shifts, and she claims, that without fail, every time she come back and I’m asleep, I’m talking about violas.
As in the instrument.
Sometimes it’s drastic, such as:
“Hurry! Get the viola in the case! It’s raining!”
Or crude viola humor that I picked up during the day:
“How do you make sure no one steals your violin? Put it in a viola case!”
Once, she said I was even acting as though I was conducting, and giving the violas notes:
“Violas, get more soft at measure 34.”
The really bizarre thing is that it’s always viola.
Never any other instrument, which is strange considering I play cello, violin, and piano.
I want an explanation, brain!
I wouldn’t call this weird…maybe quirky?
I take all 6 of my pillows and some blankets and arrange them into a bird’s nest.
I climb into the middle of the nest and curl into a little ball.
I have done this in my sleep but will also do it right before I go to bed.
I also suffer from sleep paralysis and have had mini panic attacks several times.
I have also sleep walked and gotten cereal in the middle of the night.
My dream bed:
I always go to bed wearing only my boxers. It’s just what’s most comfortable for me.
As such, you’d imagine I’d still be wearing them when I wake up.
You’d be wrong.
Occasionally sleeping Ivan manages to take off his boxers in the middle of the night and put them in strange places.
I’ve found them next to the bed (understandably) and behind my desk which is on the other side of my room (less understandably).
Either sleeping Ivan decides to have a little midnight stroll or he gets very angry with his boxers during the night.
