A survivor of Hiroshima’s atomic bombing went to Boston in 1951 and won the Marathon.

A 14-year-old Shigeki Tanaka had watched from a nearby village as an atomic bomb crippled the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. On April 19, 1951, he won the Boston Marathon.
