Job interviews aren’t easy — you have to look the part, research the company and then sell yourself as the best candidate for the position.
Top companies are going beyond the usual questions about strengths and weaknesses in favor of more difficult — and more telling — interview questions.
Below, check out the list of the Top 10 Oddball Interview Questions for 2015 in the United States, compiled by careers site Glassdoor.
1. “What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash?”
The famous hotel alternative site Airbnb, based in Portland, Oregon, asks candidates this question for its trust and safety investigator position.
2. “What’s your favorite ’90s jam?”
If you want to work in customer care at Squarespace, the Portland-based website building company, you better have a good answer to this one.
3. “If you woke up and had 2,000 unread emails and could only answer 300 of them, how would you choose which ones to answer?”
File-hosting service Dropbox asks those who want to work for its rotation program this difficult, tech-related question.
4. “Who would win in a fight between Spider-Man and Batman?”
Who says tech and medicine can’t be fun? To work at Stanford University as a medical simulationist, you’ll need to choose between Marvel and DC.
5. “If you had a machine that produced $100 dollars for life, what would you be willing to pay for it today?”
Aksia, an advisory firm in New York, asks prospective employees this financial toughie.
6. “What did you have for breakfast?”
To be a sales associate at Banana Republic, you need to think all the way back to this morning.
7. “How would you describe the color yellow to somebody who is blind?”
If you dream of being a flight attendant at Spirit Airlines, you better be skilled in the art of exposition.
8. “If you were asked to unload a 747 full of jellybeans, what would you do?”
Prospective IT support managers at Bose need to get specific with the electronics company.
9. “How many people flew out of Chicago last year?”
Movie rental company Redbox, based in Illinois, asks all software engineer II applicants this question, which even a simple Google search can’t answer.
10. “Who’s your favorite Disney Princess?”
Coldstone Creamery asks crew member candidates this not-so-mind-boggling question. But who knows? Maybe the company is only looking to hire fans of Mulan.
